In my humble opinion…Starbucks has been riddled with complaints but not over cold coffee. Instead consumers have become increasingly concerned with the cold position it has taken on the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution as it relates to “the right to bear arms.” American’s are strong and have been afforded this right by the people and for the people. What does Starbucks have to do with it? Well, I have the same question! Starbucks is a self-proclaimed cafe nothing more. A mere coffee cafe selling tea and crumpets to would be patrons, however, as it looks they have become to big for their own britches. As history would have it, Starbucks has had what I refer to as “run-ins” with people who support the “open-carry” law. In where, patrons would patronize their local Starbucks and be in the possession of an unloaded firearm attached to their person non-concealed. Now then, somewhere down the line Starbucks employees and or their predecessors made the decision to ask such patrons to leave their weapons outside Starbucks. Of course, the people revolted citing the 2nd Amendment as a United States citizen having the right to bear arms. In some cases, the police were called and there was a big whoopty do over it and in all cases no person was prosecuted and the police went on policing…
So then, there you have it, this is where Starbucks has been riddled with complaints based on the fact they are merely a cafe, boasting about 7,000 locations across America. The main source of the complaints are in reference to the authority Starbucks does not really possess. Meaning, yes, they are open to the public for business but are located on private property and do have the right to refuse anyone service. Therefore, Starbucks has taken the cold position of telling would be customers to “leave their guns outside” or at least this is their plan. In fact, Starbucks has publicly announced they will place advertisements in various newspapers in order to give notice to the general public….. they may ask customers to….. “leave their guns outside.” In all fairness, Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz publicly states, “We are not pro-gun or anti-gun” and customers will likely be served if they are in possession of a gun. This begs the question, “Why would then Starbucks place advertisements within local newspapers across the U.S. to say the contrary?
Cryptically, I am sure we can read between the lines here! It is obvious to me with the recent history and the cold stance Starbucks has taken has been very weak at best. What has happened is most likely the Ventes and Grandes of Starbucks have consulted their attorneys and found out the bad news and that is they are treading on a thin layer of iced coffee. Interestingly enough, this tells me Starbucks can’t have their and coffee and cream too. Meaning, they will eventually let their pride down after losing major dollars in loss revenue over their ill thought out decision which they have no authority to make or take. They will come to realize they are a cafe at best and have little or nothing to do with attempting to shape our worldly views on the right to carry a firearm.
As you allow all this to peculate in your mind, remember there are law enforcement officers who also patronize Starbucks and whether they are on duty or off duty they have the right to possess open and or concealed firearms whenever they want. In fact, doubtfully there are many circumstances where they would not be allowed to do the aforementioned. In 2013, I must admit there have been many establishments across America which have attempted but mostly failed at ordering peace officers not to carry their guns. But you know what, the reason you do not hear of those loud mouth establishments is most likely because they were boycotted by law enforcement and they came to find they lost major, major revenue. Yes, their cause fell on deaf ears and they quickly reversed their dumb decision and allowed peace officers to enter with their firearms.
What Starbucks should consider is law enforcement officers have huge followings and are generally loved by the public and the public will listen to law enforcement before they listen to a cafe peddling green tea and stale coffee cakes left over from the day before. Remember, it wasn’t to long ago Starbucks closed down hundreds of stores and laid off hard working Americans, mostly college kids who suffered due to their silly notions of charging exorbitant prices to their erected stores near college campuses. I could go on and on here about their silly antics and how they do not want to become politically involved. If this were truly the case why don’t they expend more energy in educating the public with their proposed newspaper announcements versus go against the American way? We shall see indeed… Better go now… think I will strap on my old 6″ S&W and go see what they have on sale at Starbucks….lol
